What We Do:

American Inline is a leading provider of summer camps in the Washington DC area. Our camps are week long day camps, exclusively on wheels for children, ages 5 to 14. Summer Camp on Wheels is the parent brand for the following camps – Learn to Ride a Bike, Bike Riding Camp and Nature Biking Camp. Summer Camp on Wheels is operated in conjunction with recreation agencies and private schools. Together, Summer Camp on Wheels hosted more that 1,200 campers in 2018. 

This Position:

Working from a variety of on-site camp locations, bike riding instructors are a key contributor to American Inline's mission. Instructors ensure they inspire boys and girls to explore their passions while building their confidence on wheels. The vibrant camp environment supports the ability to learn fast, feel safe and have fun. American Inline's bike riding instructors are the ultimate role models. They bring American Inline’s mission to life by using their passion for sports and working with children to create a positive, high energy, life-changing experience for their campers. Our Instructors are dedicated youth developers who implement the American Inline camp curriculum. Their meticulous attention to detail and an emphasis on consistent, enriching instruction allows campers to reach their full potential. Most importantly, our bike riding instructors are great leaders. They aspire to create an incredibly fun and supportive camp environment for both campers and fellow team members.

Reporting to the on-site Camp Director, a bike riding instructor at American Inline Summer Camp is responsible for the safety, enjoyment, and development of every camper. Our Instructors provide their campers with guidance and instruction throughout the camp day. Always keeping an encouraging and respectful atmosphere so that each child experiences success while at camp. Instructors must possess the ability to communicate and work with a variety of age, interest, and skill levels. They also must be able to approach each day and its unique challenges with enthusiasm, patience, and a sense of humor.

The Work:                         

Pre-Camp Season

  • Attend Camp Staff Orientation and Camp Staff Training on June 8 from 9am to 5pm. 
  • Attend an additional small group training session on one of the following dates:  June 11, 12, 13, 15 or 22.
  • Master the Camp curriculum and other materials provided.  
  • Submit all required paperwork on time.                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Camp Season

  • Execute the American Inline Summer Camps Camp curriculum with high energy, integrity, and passion – organizing, instructing on, and participating in daily drills and skill development.
  • Build strong connections with campers, taking personal responsibility for each camper's well-being, enjoyment, and development.
  • Serve as a role model for campers in demonstrating positive attitudes, respectful communication, appropriate attire and grooming, and diligent work ethic.
  • Work as part of a team to foster a safe, fun, and supportive camp environment. This environment is centered upon American Inlines' mission and values.
  • Implement American Inline Summer Camps’ traditions, games, policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain enthusiasm and focus throughout busy days. Supervise and participate with campers in every aspect of programming. 
  • Communicate respectfully, clearly, and kindly with all members of the American Inlines' Summer Camps community. This includes camp leadership, fellow team members, campers, and campers' families.
  • Prepare, organize and set up/take down all programming areas.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
  • Take responsibility for campers’ belongings for safe keeping throughout camp day.
  • Participate in all required trainings', webinars, and team meetings.
  • Meet American Inlines' Summer Camps dress code and appearance requirements.
  • Keep an inventory of bikes, helmets and equipment and supplies for the program. Alert your Camp Director when items are missing or needed.
  • Communicate professionally with parents as requested by leadership in order to provide customer connection. Relay important information on camper experience.
  • Assist with set up and clean up.
  • Report any issue, question, or concern regarding the campers promptly to the Camp Director. Notify appropriate leadership immediately of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect.
  • Demonstrate ethical and professional behavior in working with campers, campers’ families, fellow team members, leadership, and facility partners while upholding the American Inline's core values at all times
  • Adhere to state law, American Inlines' Camps policies and procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the American Inlines' leadership team and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.

The Requirements:

  • Submit all required paperwork on time.
  • Be 17 years of age or older.
  • Make a seven week minimum summer commitment.
  • Be available to work both of the following weeks:  
  • June 17 - 21  and June 24 - 28.
  • Plus, at least one of the following weeks:  
  • August 11 - 16, August 19 - 23, August 26- August 30.
  • Plus at least four more weeks for a total of at least seven weeks.  
  • Attend camp staff training on Saturday, June 8 from 9am to 5pm. 
  • Attend one additional follow up training session on either: June 11, 12, 13, 15 or 22.
  • Be willing to get first aid and CPR certified prior to May 31, 2019..
  • Have experience working with children.
  • Become a steward of our cultures and values.
  • Meet personal appearance and uniform specifications.
  • Have your own reliable automobile.

Who We Are

Our company was founded in 1993 and has been growing ever since. It began with Greg Keim in Fairfax, Virginia. Greg established an inline skating school with the highest standard of service and reliability. He was always on time and provided a comfortable learning environment.  Greg didn't just teach in-line skating.  He educated his students and improved the quality of their lives. The business grew mainly through word of mouth as more satisfied students shared their stories. Soon recreation agencies in Northern Virginia and Maryland contacted Greg to conduct classes and camps at their recreation centers. Public and private schools also wanted his programs for after school enrichment.  Today, American Inline has a family of 26 clients in 10 counties.  They host over 100 camps every summer with a camp staff of over 50 trained, certified instructors.
